Mixing effect in sewage treatment pool by distribution of submersible mixers

Abstract:To study mixing effect in sewage treatment pool by distribution of submersible mixers, with a 3D model built through Pro/E software and an unstructured tetrahedron grid of sewage treatment pool built through ICEM software, on the platform of computational fluid dynamics software Fluent 6.3, applying dynamic coordinate system technology, RNG k-ε turbulent model and PIOS algorithm, a numerical simulation of sewage treatment pool with submersible mixers was conduced. The global fluid field and every section velocity flow field distribution were analyzed. The efficiency of each submersible mixer was observed. The average fluid velocity and mixing area in the sewage pool were studied at the same time. The results show that in the optimal project H, the speed of three submersible mixers is 1 200 r/min, and their stagger angles are 45°, 30°, 30°, respectively, with the fluid mixing area in the pool reaching more than 90%. Under the operation of three mixers, the fluid in the sewage pool forms a continuous circulating water flow,with the fluid being adequately mixed and the average fluid velocity at around 0.3 m/s, satisfying the mixer′s work requirements. This method can provide a reference basis for practical engineering application of submersible mixers.
