A study on impacts of Internet contact on communication effects of ideological and political education for college students: the empirical analysis based on the survey data from 35 colleges and universities across China

Abstract: Based on the survey data of 35 colleges and universities across China, this study uses ordinal logistic regression model to examine impacts of Internet contact on communication effects of college students′ ideological and political education and its mechanism. It finds that college students′ Internet entertainment information contact, Internet fragmented reading, and Internet contact time are significantly negatively correlated with communication effects of college students′ ideological and political education; the role of "gatekeepers" is significantly positive for the relationship between college students′ Internet contact and communication effects of ideological and political education; there is a significant difference in communication effects of Internet communication and ideological and political course communication, and communication effects of ideological and political courses are better than that of the Internet. Based on these, this study proposes to improve the network information gatekeeping system, and strengthen Internet content management; enhance the network media literacy of college students, and promote effective communication of network ideological and political education; attach importance to the reform and construction of ideological and political courses, and realize indepth integration of ideological and political courses and Internet information technology.
