Abstract:The Patriot takes Yiwans transnational marriage as the main plot, combined with many images belonging to different political parties, classes, and even the nation, and it reproduces the individual choice and fate at a given time in history. It shapes the images of Chinese patriots to show the enthusiasm of the Chinese soldiers and civilians during the AntiJapanese War, and places those socalled Japanese “patriots” in the context of wild and restless public opinion so as to reveal their distortion from angel to devil, dig out the deep reasons, and expose the crimes of the Japanese militarism. The Japanese image simply outlined by Pearl S. Buck is compelling and thought provoking, which fully indicates her profound cognition of the Japanese national psychology and characters.
