Abstract:Of Pearl S. Bucks works, Pavilion of Women has been the most popular one except The Good Earth. Buck depicts the feminine experiences of Chinese women in the Republican Era in a traditional big Chinese house including their marriage, childbirth and spiritual pursuit, and creates a group of intelligent, pretty women with spirit of freedom. The heroin Madame Wu is represented as the ideal woman with traditional virtues and liberal ideas. Thus Buck has subverted the distorted image of Chinese women in western discourse.
