Research on the approachto water resources optimal allocation of the joint operation of Shanhu Reservoir and its two pumping stations

Abstract:An optimization model was constructed for the joint operation of a reservoir and two pumping stations, one of which lifted water into the reservoir while the other lifted water out of it. The model was developed with the objective of minimizing the annual sum of squared deviation of target water quantity in each period, taking the quantity of water the reservoir supplied and the pumping station lifted out as two decision variables. Constraints included annual total quantity of water the reservoir could supply, capacity of the watertransfer pumping station and joint operation rules of them. The system of Shanhu Reservoir and its two pumping stations was taken as an example which was solved by DPSA and the optimal water supply quantity, surplus water quantity, water supplement quantity and watertransfer quantity were achieved. The result shows that optimal operation of reservoir and pumping stations can decrease the water shortage from 16×104〖KG*4〗m3 〖JP2〗to 8.6×104〖KG*4〗m3, let the pumping station operate under a stable condition and increase watertransfer quantity from 380×104〖KG*4〗m3 to 390×104〖KG*4〗m3. The result can be applied to the operation and management of irrigation area with similar water supply system.
