Abstract: Academic interest is the primary factor influencing a doctorate student′s capacity for scientific research as well as the internal motivation for them to pursue academic career. However, a significant portion of PhD students′ academic enthusiasm has waned, and it is now common for them to escape from the scientific research community. Multiple logistic regression analysis of survey data from Nature′s global doctoral students in 2022 reveals that doctoral students′ own conditions significantly influence their academic interest, and students with weak academic ability, poor mental health, and nonacademic motivation are more likely to experience the decline of academic interest; Mentor tool support and emotional support negatively predict the decline of doctoral students′ academic interest; Institutional mental health support, financial support, academic support and career support have significant negative effects on the decline of doctoral students′ academic interest. Based on this, doctoral students should clarify their motivation for pursuing a PhD, and improve the academic ability, adjusting mental health through various means; Doctoral supervisors should enhance and leverage the effectiveness of instrumental and emotional support; Universities should focus on the cultivation process of doctoral students and enhance the targeted organizational support.
