Abstract：Objective To investigate and analyze the case rate, awareness rate, treatment rate and control rate of hypertension among natural population in Jiangsu province, and to provide theoretical basis for expanding the channel of hypertension health education and improving residents selfmanagement behavior. MethodsMultistage stratified random sampling method was used to sample 10 urban and rural areas, and 19 316 research subjects over 15 years old were selected since October 2013. Among them 18 953 cases were enrolled in our study. ResultsThe means systolic blood pressure/diastolic blood pressure(SBP/DBP) of Jiangsu province residents aged over 15 was 129.9(95%CI 129.6-130.2)/76.6(95%CI 76.4- 76.7) mmHg; male was 132(95%CI 131.7-132.4)/78.5(95%CI 78.3-78.8) mmHg while female was 127.9(95%CI 127.5-128.3)/74.6(95%CI 74.4-74.8) mmHg. The case rate of hypertension was 30.6%(95%CI 30.0%-31.3%). SBP in each age group increased with the growth of age. The effect of gender on blood pressure was different between urban and rural residents. Males blood pressure was higher than females(P<0.05); female’s SBP in cities was lower than that in rural areas(P<0.01) while males SBP in cities was higher than that in rural areas(P<0.01). The awareness rate, treatment rate and control rate of hypertension was 49.3%(95%CI 48.0%-50.5%), 43.6%(95%CI 42.3%-44.9%) and 14.2%(95%CI 13.3%-15.1%), respectively. The above three rates of females were all higher than those of males(P<0.01) while the three rates of urban residents were higher than those of rural ones(P<0.01). Subjects aged 15-24 had the lowest awareness rate, treatment rate and control rate of hypertension(P<0.01). ConclusionThe prevalence rate of hypertension is high in Jiangsu province,however the awareness rate, treatment rate and control rate are relatively low. It is necessary to strengthen the health knowledge education of hypertension, especially in males, rural areas and the youths.
