Abstract: Higher vocational education is an important support for the development of economy and society, and has a close interactive relationship with economy and society. This paper uses the entropy method and coupling coordination degree model to conduct empirical research on the coupling relationship between national higher vocational education and economic and social development from 2006 to 2018, and further investigates the coupling coordination level in the eastern, central and western regions. The research shows that, nationally, the coupling coordination degree gradually changed from the initial extreme maladjustment to good coordination, and the coupling coordination type changed from the lag type to the leading type of higher vocational education; regionally, the overall change trend was similar to that of the whole country, and the coupling coordination level was turning from the superior eastern regions to the superior central regions. In order to improve the coupling level between higher vocational education and economic and social development, China should accelerate the transformation of government functions, and promote the supplyside reform of vocational education; promote the innovative development of higher vocational education, and improve the system of higher vocational education; strengthen regional coordination to promote the balanced development of higher vocational education.
