Abstract:Based on the school choice data of freshmen of 2007 and 2017 in China, this paper discusses changes in the higher education choice result, satisfaction and decisionmaking basis of children from different family economic backgrounds in 10 years. The results show that compared with freshmen of 2007, freshmen of 2017 from lowincome families had more chances to enter private undergraduate colleges and private higher vocational colleges, but lost more chances to enter key universities and general public undergraduate colleges, and opportunities for children from highincome families to attend all kinds of colleges and universities increased. There was no significant difference in college choice satisfaction of children from different income families in 2007, while the satisfaction of children from lowincome families in 2017 was significantly lower. From the perspective of the decisionmaking basis of higher education, significant changes took place among freshmen of 2017 compared with freshmen of 2007: the importance of "the influence or suggestion of parents, family members or other relatives" decreased, and the importance of "the campus environment, facility and equipment" increased; in 2007, there was a significant difference in the evaluation of the importance of "tuition and living costs" and "economic development of the university′s location" by children from different family economic backgrounds, but there was no significant difference in 2017. Through multivariate logistic regression analysis with controlling for other factors, the study finds that, compared with freshmen of 2007, higher vocational colleges with lower fees and the public nature were still "friendly" to freshmen of 2017 from lowincome families, and the influence of the family economic status was significantly reduced in the process of competition selection between general public undergraduate colleges and private undergraduate colleges.
