Abstract:To study the surface of laser micro-texturing piston ring, a mathematical model was established for the piston ring with regular microstructure in the parabolic form. Through the numerical solution of the model by modified multi-grid method, the minimum film thickness and the graph of dimensionless average friction force between piston ring and cylinder liner were obtained,and the influence laws of micro-pore radius on the lubrication performance of piston ring were also analyzed.The results show that there is an apparent increase of film thickness and decrease of dimensionless average friction with the increase of micro-pore radius. However, in the intake and exhaust strokes, the dimensionless average friction decreases slightly; in the other two strokes, it decreases substantially. As pore radius rp increases from 20 μm to 70 μm, the dimensionless average friction decreases by 687% at most.
