Abstract:In combination of traditional investment casting with the molten metal infiltration of preform,a modified pressure aided investment casting process was developed to produce continuous(long) fiber reinforced aluminum alloy matrix composites. This process combines the emplacing of reinforced long fiber with the making of wax model and can directly produce the near net shape parts of composites with high precision. According to the properties of the processes,Altex SN γ-Al2O3 fiber of Sumitomo Chemical Company was selected as reinforcement of composites. With systematic experiments aluminum alloy AlZn6Mg1Ag1 was developed as the matrix of the composites. Experiments indicate that the pressure aided investment casting process is suitable for the production of the Altex SN γ-Al2O3 continuous fiber reinforced AlZn6Mg1Ag1 matrix composites. The composites produced show perfect strength property and wide application prospects. After heat treatment(T6) the composite has a tensile strength of 1 003 MPa along the fiber direction and 220 MPa in vertical direction of fiber.
