Modeling and experiment on cutting characteristics in abrasive waterjet machining with cutting head deflexion

Abstract:In order to improve the machining efficiency of abrasive waterjet cutting,a model of the depth of cut was set by using dimensional analysis. Experimental study was conducted to investigate the characteristics of oblique cut. The influences of the processing parameters especially the deflexion angle on the depth of cut and the cut surface quality were obtained through analyzing the modeling calculation and the experimental data. The results show that the model gives good predictions,the cutting head deflexion can increase the depth of cut and decrease the striation on the cut surface. The scope of valid deflexion angle which increases the depth of cut expands with the increase of the operating pressure. The best deflexion angle is larger when the traverse speed increases and smaller when the stand off distance increases.
