Abstract:Objective: To investigate the expression of paxillin in cervical cancer tissues and its prognostic value in cervical cancer patients. Methods: Immunohistochemistry staining was used to detect the expression of paxillin in 150 cervical cancer tissues, 62 cervical intraepithelial neoplasia tissues and 50 normal cervical squamous epithelium tissues. The correlation of paxillin expression in cervical cancer tissues with the clinicopathological factors was analyzed. Results: The positive rate of paxillin expression in cervical cancer(125/150,83.33%) was significantly higher than that in cervical intraepithelial neoplasia tissues(19/62,30.65%) and normal cervical squamous epithelium tissues(14/50,28.00%, P<0.01). The expression of paxillin was significantly correlated to serum carcinoembryonic antigen level(P=0.04), serum CA125 level(P=0.013), and distant metastasis (P=0.000 07). However, there was no association between paxillin expression level with age, tumor histological type, tumor histological grade, clinical stage and menstruation status. Patients with high paxillin expression had significantly lower overall survival rate than patients with low paxillin expression(P=0.023). Conclusion: Paxillin was upregulated in cervical cancer tissues, which was associated with worse prognosis.
