Abstract:The Patriot is a novel on the AntiJapanese War written by Pearl S. Buck. The writer defamiliarized her description of the war and thus gave readers a unique aesthetic experience. She had characterized and depicted the mentalities and destinies of various “Patriots” in the two warring countries. The Japanese “Patriots” featured unconditional obedience resulted from the absolute worship while the Chinese “Patriots” were in general full of idealism and passion, but unavoidably blind.
