Abstract:Objective To evaluate the clinical significance of changes in U wave morphology, amplitude and direction following ventricular premature contraction(VPC) in cardiovascular disease. Method The clinical data from 30 patients with changed U wave morphology following VPC presented in routine and ambulatory electrocardiogram were analyzed retrospectively. Results Among 21 patients (70%) with heightened U wave following VPC,15 patients presented with coronary heart disease,4 patients presented with hypertension while 2 patients presented with acute myocardial infarction. Among 9 patients(30%) with negative U wave following VPC,4 patients presented with myocardial ischemia caused by coronary heart disease,4 patients presented with hypertension while 1 patient presented with acute myocardial infarction. Conclusion The changed U wave morphology following VPC,which often presents in patients with cardiovascular diseases, especially in patients with coronary heart disease and hypertension, has important significance for the diagnosis of cardiovascular disease.
