Abstract The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology（HKUST） has experienced just more than twenty years, but becomes one of the worldknown universities. The great achievement is concerned with excellent leadership on academy and education of its founding president Prof. Wu Jiawei. Recently we interviewed with Professor Wu on excellent leadership and its cultivation. In Wus opinion, excellent leaders should possess national consciousness, serious attitude and team spirits, and should always pursue new knowledge, do reflection, and never give up dreams. Individual educational experience is critical to achieve leadership quality. The differences of educational belief between western handsome and eastern obedience make us know more about the eastern educations disadvantages. The key to helping students to value traditional culture and form international vision lies in students being acquainted with the essence of western culture as well as traditional culture. Besides, universities should provide students with more learning opportunities and good living environment to contact with outside world.
