Abstract:The spread of COVID19 has created great uncertainty for international student mobility, and this uncertainty is multifaceted. Based on the theory of risk society, this paper analyzes impacts of COVID19 on international student mobility. It concludes that, given the complexity of the epidemic risk in the global community, the epidemic will have significant impacts on the international student mobility market: the scale of mobility will enter a downward stage; Western tradeoriented universities will face a serious financial crisis; the market of mobility will shift from a seller′s market to a buyer′s market; internationalization at home and online internationalization will develop rapidly; changes in the pattern of international student mobility will further intensify. In the postepidemic era, China should recognize the development trend of international student mobility, grasp the pattern change opportunity, shift from crisis management to strategy formulation, guide the diversification of destination countries for studying abroad and ways of studying abroad, optimize the overall planning of studying in China, accelerate the layout of crossborder education, and occupy a favorable position in the future competition of international student mobility.
