Abstract:Professors governing academic studies is very important for colleges and universities to establish and improve their modern university institution with Chinese characteristics. At present, there are quite a few difficulties in professors governance because of some cultural and historical factors. As a “constitution”, the university charter is a powerful “weapon” against these difficulties and is a guarantee for professors governing academic studies. It should clarify the relationship between the school and the government, thus promoting their separation, give full respect to the schools autonomy, and create conditions for professors governance. It should define the boundary between its internal governance power and academic power so as to achieve harmony between the academic power and the administrative power. It should help the school to return to the academic standard, give full play to the power of the academic committee, ensure professors governance over scientific research, and provide a platform for the exercise of the academic power.
