Abstract: The tests of concrete slabs reinforced with bundled steel bars and single steel bars under monotonic loading were conducted to evaluate the slab mechanical behavior according to failure mode, displacement ductility, flexural strength, crack width and stiffness. The results indicate that all the specimens failed in bending under monotonic loading. The flexural strength of concrete slab reinforced with single steel bars is about 2% higher than that of slab reinforced with horizontal twin bundled steel bars, while the flexural strength of concrete slab reinforced with horizontal twin bundled steel bars is about 19% and 17% higher than those of slabs reinforced with triangular bundled steel bars and horizontal threebar bundled steel bars, respectively. The maximum crack width and the deflection in midspan of concrete slab reinforced with horizontal twin bundled steel bars are close to those of concrete slab reinforced with single steel bars, while the maximum crack width and the deflection in midspan of concrete slab reinforced with triangular bundled steel bars and horizontal threebar bundled steel bars are larger than those of concrete slab reinforced with horizontal twin bundled steel bars. The design and the calculation method of concrete slabs reinforced with bundled steel bars were also discussed.
