Abstract:The working principle of bearingless motors was introduced. The general expressions of the inductances were established for bearingless motors with the column rotor or the gibbose-pole rotor. The mathematic model of radial suspension forces was deduced for the bearingless motors with conventional 4- pole stator windings and additional 2-pole suspension force windings. Based on the radial suspension force mathematic model, taking a bearingless synchronous reluctance motor and a bearingless permanent magnet synchronous motor for examples, corresponding suspension force formula was deduced. The calculated results for the suspension force agree with the results calculated with finite element method (FEM) software.
