The influence of coarsegrain content on the dynamic deformation characteristics of quartz sand was investigated by resonance column test system to simultaneously test dynamic shear modulus and dynamic elastic modulus for particle group of 1.0-2.0 mm coarse grain and 0.1-0.5 mm fine grain.
Based on the test results of dynamic shear modulus and dynamic elastic modulus under different strains, the iterative calculation method for dynamic Poisson′s ratio under different strains was established, and the dynamic Poisson′s ratio in a small strain range was calculated. The results show that with the increasing of coarse particle content, the dynamic shear modulus and the dynamic elastic modulus are increased first with latter decreasing when the strain is small. When the coarse particle content is about 50%, the dynamic shear modulus and the dynamic elastic modulus reach the maximum values because the contact states of the two grains of sand reach the best states. In the process of small strains from 10-6 to 10-4, the dynamic Poisson′s ratio is increased from 0.1-0.2 to 0.2-0.3 with significant increasing.
