Abstract: It is one of the effective ways to solve the problems of high thermal resistance and low thermal capacity by introducing phase change materials (PCMs) into lightweight wallboards for buildings. The enthalpy mathematical model was used to analyze the impact rules on the thermal performance of basic, lightweight and heavy wallboards outfitted with PCMs. The impacts of location and quantity variations of the insulation and PCM layers on the thermal performance of wallboards were investigated. The results show that adequate amount of insulation material in wallboards is the basic guarantee for the energy storage performance of PCMs. To obtain high thermal performance, PCM should be set inside insulation layer. The other material layers, except for the insulation and PCM layers, should be selected with lightweight materials and set as inner layers in wallboards for high thermal performance.
