Abstract In order to investigate the seismic performance of concrete beam-column joints strengthened by fiber reinforced plastics (FRP) and the corresponding frame structure, based on the pseudo-static test results of these joints, the hysteretic characteristics of the connections were analyzed. Considering the effect of stiffness degradation, a three lines restoring force model of concrete frame joints reinforced with FRP was proposed and ranges of the characteristic parameters were determined. The expression of restoring force model for joints strengthened by interply hybrid FRP was suggested. The results show that the seismic performance of the joints strengthened by FRP is increased evidently and reinforcement of interplay hybrid FRP is more effective. The framework curve of proposed restoring force model is very close to the test data. This model can be used to analyze the elastic-plastic dynamic response of concrete frame reinforced with FRP and the seismic strengthening design of its connections.
