Abstract The influences of the multi-mode, coupling modes and wind load spectrum of railway station's platform canopies on the wind-induced response were investigated, and the range of structure frequency was analyzed. Based on the wind tunnel tests of two railway stations and finite element analysis of two railway platforms, by use of frequency-domain method, the quantity of contributing modes was calculated, and the RSM displacement and RSM internal force were estimated with and without considering the effects of coupling modes and wind load spectrum. The rational frequency range was determined by the wind load spectrum and the strain energy of modes. The results show that responses are influenced by quantities of contributing modes, coupling of modes and wind load spectrum respectively, and the precision can be effectively satisfied by adopting the modes within 3.5 Hz.
