Abstract:Based on microscopic high-speed camera technology, the visualization study of electro-spraying from stainless steel double-capillaries was conducted. Anhydrous ethanol and deionized (DI) water were used as experimental liquids, and the pictures of electro-spraying were captured by microscopy morphology with photographing frequency of 104 Hz. The electro-spraying modes for double-capillaries were obtained by off-line analyzing many pictures and compared with typical electro-spraying modes for single capillary. The results indicate that the dripping, skew dripping, spindle, cone-jet, whipping jet and multi-jet modes are observed for anhydrous ethanol, while the dripping, skew dripping, cone-jet and oscillating-jet modes are captured for deionized water. Except the dripping mode, there exists a different angle between the center line of atomization jet and the axis of capillary in the electro-spraying modes due to electrical forces from another capillary. The droplets size has different distributions for different electro-spraying modes. The electro-spraying modes of anhydrous ethanol and DI water are different. For anhydrous ethanol, more electro-spraying modes can be observed, and the surfaces of jets or droplets are much smoother with much smaller droplet size than those for DI water in present experiment parameters due to different surface tensions.
