Comparison of hybrid energy sources with different structures in
hybrid electric vehicles

Abstract:To solve the problems of short cycle life and small power density of single battery energy storage system in hybrid electric vehicles, the batteryultracapacitor hybrid energy source was introduced to bring into full play of the characteristics of high energy density of battery and high power density of ultracapacitor. The passive, the improved passive and the active hybrid energy sources were investigated and simulated with MATLAB 7. The simulation results show that the power capacity of the hybrid energy source is enhanced greatly, and the discharging process of battery is optimized. The active hybrid energy source has the better performance than those of the passive and the improved passive hybrid energy sources.
