Abstract:The porous coatings on pure titanium were prepared by micro-arc oxidation in silicate-containing electrolyte with calcium phosphate. The size of micro-pores on the surface and the surface porosity of coatings for different oxidation times of 3,6,9,12 and 15 min were analyzed. The original images of surface morphologies of the coatings were obtained by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and the micro-pore parameters of coatings were analyzed automatically and characterized quantitatively by MATLAB image processing technology. The results show that the size of micro-pores in the processed image can be clearly identified. After treated for 3 min, the percentage of micro-pores with the size less than 1 μm is approximate 80%, and the surface porosity of the coatings is 10.5%.With the increasing of treatment time, the total number of micro-pores is decreased greatly, while the number of micro-pores with the size more than 4 μm is increased. The surface porosity of the coatings skyrockets constantly. When the treatment time is extended to 15 min, there are some large pores with the size of 8 μm and more than 8 μm, and the surface porosity is increased to about 15.0%.
