Abstract:To investigate the seismic performance of short columns confined with BFRP and CFRP, the low cyclic loading tests were conducted on one comparative short column and five RC short columns confined with two types of composites. Ductility, degeneration laws of stiffness and bearing capacity, equivalent viscous damping coefficient were analyzed. The energy dissipation ability of specimens was compared. The results show that the maximum increases of ultimate load of column confined by BFRP and CFRP are 123% and 97%, respectively. The maximum increases of ultimate displacement are 583% and 833%, respectively. The confined specimens show similar seismic performance under the same conditions. The high tensile strength of BFRP and CFRP does not play full role in the tests.
