Effect of freeway tunnel environment on driver vision characteristics

Abstract:In order to analyzing the effect of freeway tunnel environment on driver visual characteristics, the road tests of 24 different tunnels were conducted on ChangHun freeway. The visual characteristic parameters were obtained, and the vision plane of driver was divided into eight different regions using kmean clustering method. Based on the division of driver vision plane, the distributions of driver fixation point in each region were compared for different tunnels. The results show that the driver focuses on the front of driving direction in short tunnels with bad legibility. The fixation points of driver are distributed in different regions in long tunnel, and the driver gradually adapts to the lowlight condition with better legibility in long tunnel.
