Abstract:To investigate the influence of laser surface texturing on the tribological properties of ductile cast iron under line contact conditions, the Q switched lightpumped Nd:YAG laser was used with laser processing technology of single pulse at a time and repeating at intervals to treat the ductile cast iron specimen end face. The regular network of microdimples with four different depth and four different area density were fabricated. A series of contrast experiments on the ductile cast iron specimen were performed by the line contact conditions on cylindrical pinondisc friction and wear tester to realize slideroll combination movement. The experimental results show that compared with the smooth surface under the same test condition, microdimples surface has better friction reducing effect. The effects of microdimple depth and area density on the tribological properties were also investigated. There are optimum design parameters of microdimples to achieve the best effect of friction reduction and enhanced antiscuffing performance.
