Synthesis and properties of with temperature and light sensitivities P(NIPAmcoDMAEEAPB) hydrogel

Abstract: The copolymer hydrogel with terperature and light sensitivities was prepared by copolymerization of Nisopropylacrylamide with a newly developed watersoluble azobenzenecontaining monomer of 4(4((4ethoxyphenyl)diazenyl) phenoxy)N(2(methacryloyloxy)ethyl)N,Ndimethylbutan1ammonium bromide (DMAEEAPB). The properties of the hydrogel were determined by differential scanning calorimetry, UVVis absorption spectrometry and gravimetry. The results show that the hydrogel has a very quickly transcis photoisomerization rate upon UV irradiation with finished switch only for 4 min irradiation.The lower critical solution temperature (LCST) and the temperaturesensitivity of the copolymer hydrogel decreased with the increasing of DMAEEAPB content. By UV irradiation, the temperaturesensitivity of the copolymer hydrogel recovers with increased LCST of 0.8~1.2 ℃. The swelling ratio of the hydrogel can be enhanced 0.34~0.80 by irradiation in a proper temperature range .
