Abstract:By using the wavelet and wavelet packet to decompose the acoustic emission(AE) signal, the dispersion characteristics were investigated and the relationships between dispersion and distance were derived. In order to eliminate the locating error for acoustic emission system due to the sonic speed measurement deviation, by using the relationships and the dispersion characteristics of Lamb waves, a new locating method was proposed, which could take effect when the sound velocity of acoustic emission was not certain. In the new method, it was unnecessary to add more sensors. Experiments were carried out on sheet metal with the signal of pencil lead breaking as simulating source. The results show that the new method can identify the source location conveniently, and the theoretic value is fairly close to the real value.
