Abstract:In order to enhance the protection for passengers, the side airbag should be designed with op- timized parameters. Considering certain shortages of airbag design in traditional methods, the PSM substructure method and method of response surface optimization were introduced. First, side impact airbag model was established by using the PSM sub-structure method. Second, the design variables were selected through one order response surface method. Finally, the side airbag parameters optimization was conducted by using two orders response surface model. The results show that the optimized design can improve the performance of the side airbag and the passenger injury risk can be reduced greatly
