Objective: To study the prognostic value of ventricular zone-expressed PH domain-containing protein homolog 1（VEPH1） in kidney renal clear cell carcinoma ( KIRC ). Methods: VEPH1 expression data in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) datasets and its clinical information were extracted and downloaded. Immunohistochemical staining obtained from The Human Protein Atlas database also demonstrated the deregulations of VEPH1 expression in tumor tissues. Statistical assessment was performed for exploring relationship between VEPH1 and prognosis. Cbioportal database was used to analyze the reasons for the decrease of VEPH1 expression. Gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) was used to predict the gene sets modulated by VEPH1. Results: The VEPH1 mRNA and protein expression was significantly decreased in KIRC tumor tissues than those in normal tissues, and the lower the expression, the shorter the total survival time of patients.The decreased expression of VEPH1 mRNA in KIRC tumors was not caused by gene misspelling or mutation. High VEPH1 expression KIRC samples were significantly enriched in amino acid, sugar and fat metabolism related to KEGG pathway. Conclusion: The low expression of VEPH1 in KIRC tumor tissue may influence various metabolic pathways, which can predict the prognosis of KIRC patients.
