Meta-analysis of neonatal brain injury on neuroglobin levels |

Abstract [Abstract]Objective: To evaluate the predictive value of neuroglobin(Ngb) in neonatal brain injury. Methods: All relevant studies were searched by Cochrane library, PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, CNKI and WanFang Database(from the date of database building to March 20, 2016) with the index words of neuroglobin and brain injury. Quality of the studies was assessed and the information was extracted one by one. Ngb levels in biological fluid were chosen as the evaluation criteria. Then the Metaanalysis was performed by Review Manager version 5.2. Results: A total of 324 documents retrieved for the evaluation, of which 5 included into the Metaanalysis, which were all associated with hypoxicischemic disease, including 3 on hypoxicischemic encephalopathy(HIE), 1 on periventricular leukomalacia (PVL), 1 on fetal distress. Compared with the control groups, varying degrees of HIE increased the levels of Ngb in serum. The difference between two groups was statistically significant, the combined volume of Ngb level in mild HIE SMD=2.71(95% CI:1.29~4.13, P<0.01), Ngb combined in moderate HIE SMD=12.23(95% CI:8.33~16.13, P<0.01), Ngb combined in severe HIE SMD=13.25(95% CI:8.48~18.02, P<0.01); brain damage caused by PVL and fetal distress increased the Ngb levels in serum.The difference between study and control groups was statistically significant, Ngb combined SMD= 4.67(95% CI:2.55~6.78, P<0.01). Conclusion: Serum Ngb has the predictive value in neonatal hypoxicischemic brain damage.
