Abstract:Objective: To explore the biological characteristics of CD133 + cells and analyze the feasibility of CD133 as the marker in glioma stem cells. Methods: The expression of CD133, nestin, neuron specific enolase (NSE), glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) were detected by immunofluorescence in U251 glioma cells. The differences of the nestin, NSE, GFAP positive cells were analyzed between CD133 + cells and CD133-cells. Results: In the U251 cells, the CD133+ cells composed to 0.060±0.003. In CD133+ cells, nestinpositive cells, NSE and GFAP negative cells increased significantly; in CD133- cells, on the contrary, nestin negative cells, NSE and GFAP positive cells increased significantly. Conclusion: The CD133+ cells exist in U251 glioma cells, which have stem cell characteristics.
