Abstract The early Chinese Communists had already researched Lenin's New Economic Policy, yielding such rich but diverse results as Qu Qiubai's argument for “cooperative socialist commodity economy”, Yun Daiying's insistence on the “long-run development of state capitalism”, Zhao Shiyan's suggestion of “state administration of production”, Zhou Enlai's understanding of “crisis strategy”and insistence on “increasing production relations”, and Zhang Wentian's preference for the coexistence of two systems.Their understandings of such important issues as state capitalism, commodity economy & cooperative, and the historical position of the New Economic Policy are, on the whole, correct and praiseworthy, despite their errors, even misreading.
