Abstract:Contemporary Chinese TV serials communicate city images via the production of TV programs featuring natural and human scenery,the production of TV serials portraying city life,the establishment of movie cities,the launching of film festivals,etc.so that a city's regional characteristics and cultural contents can be brought out,its image and fame enhanced,its cultural competitive edge sharpened,and its soft power increased.Attention should be paid to such problems as the difference between the real city and the one portrayed in programs,the contrast between the over-portrayal of city natural scenery and the shortage of city spirit,and that between the flooding of city image universalities and the loss of individualities in communicating city images via TV serials.
