The present paper was based on the mixed crosssectional data of 1040 new professional farmers questionnaire surveys in Guangdong and Jiangxi provinces from 2019 to 2020, used the Ordinal Probit model and, on the basis of theoretical analysis, empirically tested the impact of nonagricultural employment experience and risk preference on new farmers adoption of production technology. The results show that the nonagricultural employment experience and risk preference had positively influence on the farmers adoption of production technology behavior. It is also found that nonagricultural employment experience had a heterogeneous effect on the farmers adoption of production technology, with working experience having a stronger promoting effect, for such experience strengthened their risk preference and in turn prompted them to adopt new technology. Therefore, it is necessary to take into full consideration the differentiated technical needs of new professional farmers with different nonagricultural employment experiences and risk preferences, provide targeted technical support, further improve the risk sharing mechanism of agricultural technology adoption, and give full play to the demonstration and leading role of largescale farmers in the adoption of production technology.
