Abstract The low percentage of female rectors in global higher education institutes is an epitome of womens participation in the field of education, and also the ‘glass ceiling’. Prof. Gülsün Sagˇlamer, chairperson of European Women Rectors Platform (EWRP), argues that this phenomenon is related to social structure, cultural tradition and women themselves. However, it does not mean that women dont deserve for the position of rector in higher education institutes. Male and female dont share significant difference with the key capacity for rector, i.e. leadership, which should be improved by both congenital advantages and later learning & training as well. The solutions for gender glass ceiling in education call for the creation of an environment that values gender equity in career development through such means as institutions, actions, processing management, etc., and thus gradually and systemically changing the current decision structure and culture structure.
