Abstract Interdisciplinary construction is an important strategic initiative to adapt to the development in the new era, promote the new scientific and technological revolution and build a powerful country in higher education. However, interdisciplinary construction is constrained by multiple restrictions in the field of the knowledge production, the academic organization, and the discipline system. The problems comes after such as the difficulty of knowledge generation in interdisciplinary system, the weak cohesion of academic community, the imbalance of internal and external system development power and the inelasticity of discipline system setting which restrict the sustainable, coordinated and healthy development of interdisciplinary disciplines. In order to promote the development of interdisciplinary, it is necessary to break the boundary barrier of disciplinary knowledge production, eliminate the distinction between the discipline of the academic organizations, optimize the internal and external discipline system, innovate discipline management mechanism to eliminate the potential concern of the interdisciplinary development.
