How higher education promotes corporate digital transformation: evidence from listed companies |

Abstract Based on the data of A share listed companies in Shanghai and Shenzhen from 2010 to 2020, this study constructs an evaluation system of regional higher education development indicators, measures the comprehensive development index of regional higher education, and empirically analyzes the impact and mechanism of digital transformation on enterprises. The study finds that regional higher education development contributes to the digital transformation of enterprises in the region; higher education promotes the digital transformation of enterprises through the effects of resource agglomeration, digital technological innovation, and risk smoothing; higher education development has a positive survival effect on the digital transformation of nonstateowned enterprises, smallscale enterprises, and nonlaborintensive enterprises. Based on this, China should boost the digital transformation of enterprises through the development of higher education in the region to realize the highquality development of the economy; Increase the investment in the construction of digital economy disciplines, and combine the industryuniversityresearch to cultivate knowledgebased composite talents; Improve the innovation and entrepreneurship education in colleges and attach importance to cultivating the innovative thinking and entrepreneurial ability of students; Strengthen the guidance of industry policies on the social functions of higher education and the role of higher education as an enabler for the economic and social development of society.
