Abstract China′s institutional research derives from the study of American IR. On the basis of profound achievements in the U.S. IR field, Chinese scholars realize the necessity of sinicizing IR. More than ten years′ hard work has brought significant development and it is commonly believed that Chinese IR is evolving from initial shaping to normative development. During this process, four relationships are required to be maintained appropriately: service for leaders′ decision making or the success of students; data analysis and qualitative research; internationalization and sinicization as well as institutional administration and professionalization of study.
