Abstract On the basis of institution theory, organizational climate theory and selfdetermination theory, this study constructs a model of the influence mechanism of the teaching orientation of the professional title evaluation and appointment institution on young teachers′ teaching behavior in colleges and universities. Based on APIKS survey data, simple mediation model and moderated mediation model are employed to analyze the relationship between the teaching orientation of professional title evaluation and appointment institution and the young teachers′ teaching behavior in colleges and universities. It is found that the Chinese colleges and universities emphasis on teaching is insufficient when they hire and promote teachers, the teaching orientation atmosphere is low, and teachers teaching autonomy is not high. Compared with non"Double Firstclass" construction universities, "Double Firstclass" construction universities emphasis more on teaching when hiring and promoting teachers, providing teachers with more scope and space on autonomous decisionmaking. The direct influence of the teaching orientation of professional title evaluation and appointment institution on young teachers′ teaching behavior is not significant, and the indirect influence on the teaching behavior is produced through the teaching orientation atmosphere, and with the increase of teaching autonomy, this indirect influence gradually weakens. The government should continuously establish and improve the classification evaluation system of colleges and universities; Colleges and universities should continuously improve and optimize the professional title evaluation and appointment institution, actively build an environment conducive to the teaching development of young teachers.
