The deviate value orientation of university rankings of teaching quality and its countermeasures

Abstract:The current university ranking system of teaching quality takes deviate value orientation, including elitism of talent cultivation, scale orientation of teaching resources allocation and marginalization of teaching courses, which misleads the developing direction of university teaching. The cause lies in the inner logic deviation between university ranking and university teaching quality. On one side, university rankings adopt the logic of instrumental reason, simplify thinking mode and pursue scientificity. On the other side, university teaching quality follows value rationality and its complexity. Besides, university teaching has some character of art. In order to redirect the value orientation of university rankings of teaching quality, the teaching quality view of university rankings should be clarified to guarantee its professionalism, the teaching philosophy of universities should be perfected to ensure it has an exact attitude towards the function of university rankings, and the judgment of the common citizens should be improved to achieve the educational meaning of university rankings.
