A study on the influencing factors of university teachers′ willingness toparticipate in organized scientific research: from the perspective of theory of planned behavior and normative activation theory

Abstract:Based on the survey data of 368 university teachers, this research analyzes the influencing factors of university teacher′s willingness to participate in organized scientific research. It is found that behavioral attitude and perceived behavioral control have direct, positive and significant effects on the willingness of participation, and behavioral attitude has the greatest impact on the willingness of participation; it is difficult for subjective norms and personal norms to significantly affect the willingness of university teachers to participate in organized scientific research, subjective norms exert indirect influence on the willingness of participation through behavioral attitude, perceived behavioral control and personal norms; the awareness of consequence has indirect influence on the willingness of participation, which mainly plays the mediating role through three paths: behavior attitude, subjective norm and responsibility attribution; after grouping the samples according to the demographic characteristics of the population, it is found out the moderating effects of gender, age, educational background, professional title, position and discipline on university teachers′ willingness to participate in organized scientific research have been verified. The government and universities should set up professional scientific research teams, provide policy preference and resource guarantee, improve the ecology of scientific research and innovation, create a tolerant environment for scientific research and innovation, and improve the willingness of university teachers to participate in organized scientific research.
