Abstract To solve the problems of lowspeed jitter and roar during acceleration, the vibration and noise test and the simulation analysis were conducted. Several optimization schemes of changing singlemass flywheel to dual mass flywheel, reducing torsional stiffness of clutch, increasing diameter of drive shaft and installing torsional vibration damper at the end of drive shaft were proposed. Through road test, the rubber aging of torsional vibration damper was found, and it was difficult to control the damping. The results show that low speed jitter and rumbling problems occur near the engine speed of 1 200 r·min-1 and are mainly caused by the lowspeed torsional vibration of transmission system. The proposed optimization schemes can effectively improve the torsional vibration of transmission system, and the side noise of driver and passenger can be reduced about 23 dB(A). The eventual optimization solution is to reduce torsional stiffness of clutch and increase diameter of drive shaft.
