Abstract Several typical battery models were introduced, and the second order Thevenin model was selected as research object. The performance test of lithium battery was carried out, and the hybrid pulse power characteristic (HPPC) test was used to identify the parameters of battery model. With Matlab/cftool, the experimental data were polynomial fitted. In Matlab/Simulink, the simulation model was built and simulated. Through the comparison of simulation and test results, the validity of lithium battery model parameter identification was verified. The reason for the increase of simulation error was analyzed, and the method to improve the accuracy of battery model parameters was proposed. The results show that the model can accurately describe the external characteristics of lithium battery under different working conditions, and the simulation error is increased with the decreasing of state of charge (SOC). When the SOC<0.2, the simulation error is increased obviously.
