Abstract:In minimal quantity lubrication(MQL) machining operations, the cutting fluid should keep the primary functions of tradional ones such as to cool, to lubricate, and to remove the chips, etc. Besides MQL cutting fluid should have good biodegradability, oxidation stability and storage stability because it must be compatible with the environment and chemically stable under long-term usage when there is a very low consumption rate. Based on chemical and cutting test, the biodegradability, oxidation stability, storage stability, cutting effect and economy of three cutting fluid (synthetic esters, vegetable oil and polyethylene glycol)are analyzed. Using analytic hierarchy process (AHP), an integrated appraisement system of selection of MQL cutting fluid was developed. The results show that for work piece of 45 steel, vegetable oil is the best, synthetic esters is the second and polyethylene glycol is the last. For LY12, vegetable oil is the best, polyethylene glycol is the second and synthetic esters is the last.
