Abstract:To control nitrogenous disinfection by-products (N-DBPs), the effects of ozonation pretreatment on the generation of N-DBPs were investigated. Three typical types of N-DBPs of nitrosamine, halogenated nitromethane and haloacetonitrile were chosen as research subjects. Based on the formation mechanisms, the effects of pre-ozonation on the formation of N-DBPs during chloramination were reviewed and analyzed. The results indicate that in most cases, ozonation pretreatment can reduce the formation of N-DBPs. However, for some special water sources, the ozonation pretreatment makes the formation of N-DBPs increase mainly due to the existence of high potential precursors of N-DBPs.Based on the present research, some issues needed to be further studied in the future were proposed.
